The Elite Pipeline Pigs Polly-Pig is constructed of open cell polyurethane foam of various densities and is available with various types of external coatings. Although each pig has a specific application, some are interchangeable according to the user’s preference within certain parameters.
The Elite Pipeline Pigs Polly-Pig is molded of polyurethane foam material of light, medium, or heavy density. Its bullet shape is designed to aid in traversing fittings and valves. Concave ends are available for bi-directional service. The length of the pig is approximately twice its diameter to reduce the possibility of the pig tumbling in the pipeline. The diameter of the Polly-Pig is larger than the inside diameter of the pipe. This is done to exert a frictional drag between the foam pig and pipe wall. Pigs can be ordered to any custom size requirements.
Polly-Pigs have a concave base plate with a 90A durometer polyurethane coating. This provides a maximum rear sealing surface for the propelling forces of the fluids or gases being used.
Swabs or bare pigs, which have only the bases coated, are normally used in drying or batching operations. Special double-nose or double-dished pigs are used in bi-directional service.
The exterior coatings on the foam bodies consist of criss-cross type spirals of 90A durometer polyurethane. These spirals add strength and give greater wiping and scraping action as compared with bare foam. Elite Pipeline Pigs manufactures two types of criss-cross pigs: the original pattern and the patented “Turning Pattern.” Wire brushes, silicon carbide, or plastic bristles can be embedded in these polyurethane spirals to add maximum scraping or brushing action.
Red Series Polly Pigs
The Red Series pig bodies are made with Knapp’s rugged and dependable K-Lite urethane foam. K-lite is a medium-density (7 to 8 lb/ft3) foam; the Red Series pigs are available with assorted coatings and scraper elements to perform the utility function required of the pig.
Blue Series Polly Pigs
Elite’s Blue Series pigs use the same basic K-Lite foam system as the well-known Red Series. With Elite’s unique ability to blend our own foam sytems, we alter the formulation of the urethane foam to make it softer, lighter (5 to 6 lb/ft3) and more flexible. The coating used for the Blue Series is also softer and more flexible than that found on the Red Series. The same coating patterns and scraper elements are available for the Blue Series.
Crimson Series Polly Pigs
The Crimson Series pigs use Elite’s K-Duro, our toughest and longest-wearing foam. K-Duro is a heavy-density (9 to 10 lb/ft3) foam ideal for pigs that have to travel long distances or perform hard scraping duty. The Crimson Series is available with the same coating patterns and scraper elements as the Red Series.
Maximum Cleaning Series Polly Pigs
The Maximum Cleaning Series pigs use both Elite’s K-Lite and K-Duro urethane foam bodies. Depending upon the particular application, straps of urethane scraper blades, steel wire brushs, silicone carbide chips, or hardened steel studs are applied to the pig bodies to produce the ultimate in scraping and flexibility.
Swab Series Polly Pigs
The Swab Series pigs use Elite’s lightest-density (1 to 2 lb/ft3) foam body with the same coating patterns and scraper elements aavialble for our other Polly Pigs.
Polly Pig Options
All Elite Polly Pigs are available with performance-enhancing options such as double-dished ends and pig tracking adapters to fit all manufacturers locating equipment. Please consult Knapp with your specific requirements.
